Default How fast is leveling in GW?

I am thinking about trying out GW coming from EQ2 and WoW. I'm sorta tired of the level grind to 60 thing and thought GW might be a bit different?

I like the idea of having time to make several chars...how long does it take to get to level 20 and then what is the timeframe spent on skills?

Lets see.

Playing the game fully doing every single quest along the way - Maybe a week or two, as some quests are time consuming, but are not completely necessary.

Doing every mission and a few quests for skills along the way - Perhaps a week or so.

Doing a few missions and taking the quick way out via running (not reccommended) and hitting level 14, then doing a test of your skills to gain a TON of experience - a few days.

Geting run all over the map, then get power leveled until level 20. (Highly unrecommended) - One day.

As you can see, it's not really that hard to hit level 20 within a few weeks if you play only a few hours a day with traditional methods of beating the came within it's entirety. In fact, you should be able to hit level 20 before hitting the midpoint of this game. Each additional level for a character simply means, more health. At level 20, you will hit 480 health with no health modifiers from items.

There are no true requirements to equip items, but in order to hit maximum efficiency on an item, you may need to be at the level cap.

As for skills, when you travel through the map of Guild Wars, you will hit several outposts with skill trainers, each possesing unique skills for your character to learn. In order to purchase the skills, you need Skill points, which are given to you when you level up, or complete a mission.

An alternative to purchasing skills, is to do quests for your skills. Most quests should not take more than 15 minutes or so, and usually grant two skills.

If you are interested, here is a link to a bunch of skills that the game holds.

It leads you to a few links involving Skill Trainers, Elite Skills, and skills in general.

Hopefully you will have a pleasant experience with Guild Wars, I know I have, and perhaps we will be working together in a mission sometime.

Ah... one of the wonderful things about GW. Almost no grind. You reach level 20 about 2/3 of the way through the storyline, if you play the normal way (IE no runs/powerleveling/skipping missions). I'd say it would take roughly 2 weeks of playing (maybe 1 hour a day on weekdays, 2 on weekends?) to complete the storyline and all quests. Of course, it depends on how much you play your other characters, and how much you play GW. My first character took a week to get out of Presearing because I was inexperienced, and I was playing two other characters as well. My latest PvE character is halfway through the game after 5 days, and I haven't skipped any missions or quests. Most of my guild is highly PvE oriented and play a LOT, with a few of them helping do missions and runs, they could probably finish the game in 2 days.

However, even after you finish the storyline, there's still lots to do. Repeatable quests and missions like the Underworld/Fissure of Woe and Sorrow's Furnace are always nice to do, and there are lots of Elite skills to capture. About the skills - you gain quite a few skills via quest rewards, it's not a requirement for you to buy them.

Also, it's not very hard to get the best equipment. I know in WoW a lot of your character's power depends on having great equipment, GW is different. Max weapons are fairly easy to get, most green weapons cost ~10k (probably 30-40min of farming), and a full set of the highest AL armor only costs 7.5k without materials. Of course, this doesn't mean you run out of stuff to buy halfway through the game, there's always FoW armor and rare skinned weapons that go for ridiculous amounts of gold.

EDIT: whoops I got beat to the punch. Oh well XD

Quite true, becoming a powerful character in Guild Wars relies on how well your team plays, keeping yourselves from bringing in unwanted monsters halfway through battle and common knowledge. Unlike many other games, a character itself only needs a strong set of 8 skills to thrive in the Guild Wars environment.

Yes, I beat you to the punch, Nightrunner, and my post is bigger! Whee~

Yeah its amazingly easier to level in this game but we all suggest you play through it once before you get rushed to 2/3 end of the game and powerlevel on level 24 monsters until your level 20^^ took me about 5 hours to do this.

Skip to a higher level place even at level 3, bring exp scrolls kill the whole area, and repeat around 8 hours more or less.
